Prison organizes fights between murderers and rapists and rewards freely | Chronic

The worst detainees at Khao Prik Prison, located 200 kilometers from Bangkok, Thailand, have a chance to be released without serving their sentence. For them, they have to sign up for Prison Fight, a program created in 2012 allowing criminals to obtain a pardon if they dedicate champions to the Muay Thai Tournament, a martial art pbadionate about this country.

In this tournament, the worst murderers, pedophiles, rapists and thieves seek to get out of their isolation, but this option does not reach the prisoners with minor offenses. As in all competitions, the prisoners are eliminated until the final where they have to fight against a professional fighter. Far from hiding, the tournament is televised and has sponsors.

The tournament already had five champions since 2012. One of the last was Noy Khaopan who is free when he has to serve an eleven-year sentence for stabbing his head and killing a student. This murderer has beaten better than the other prisoners. And he went home.

Despite the incredible unfolding of this tournament, the management of Khao Prik Prison is based on the religious character of Muay Thai and how it is part of Thai culture. And they describe a lack of livelihood defense: "The tournament gives the prisoners a purpose, a hope, and since it was organized, drug trafficking and violent behavior within the prison have diminished".
