A young Cretan farmer confessed on Tuesday that raped and murdered Suzanne Eaton. The American scientist was on the Greek island to attend a conference and was found dead in a Nazi bunker of World War II.
Eaton, molecular biologist at the Max Planck Institute of the German University of Dresden, disappeared on July 2nd and his body was found six days later in a cave near where the conference was held.
The main suspect, a 27-year-old Cretan, married, father of two children and son of a priest, was arrested on Monday and interrogated at the Chania Police Station.
According to the police, this man ran twice the scientist with her car and put her in her trunk to take her to the cave where she was found dead. Suzanne Eaton was "badually badaulted" and then "suffocated", according to the first forensic report.
The woman was 59 years old and was married to British scientist Anthony Hyman with whom I had two children.
