However, a few days ago, thousands of bones were discovered in two underground ossuaries of the Vatican Teutonic Cemetery as part of the investigation, which generated more questions than answers.

The discovery of empty graves a few days ago in one area of ​​the Vatican cemetery led to inspections in the other area of ​​the cemetery, in this case in the Teutonic College area, where the cemetery is located namesake. On July 20, a group of forensic experts inspected two buried underground ossuaries. Thousands of bones from dozens of individuals, adults and children, have been observed.

"We want to know why and how" the remains have arrived there, said the genetic expert Giorgio Portera, who participated in the operation on behalf of the Orlandi family. According to Portera, they did not expect to find "so many".

The remains found in the pits were removed and subjected to a first evaluation. On July 27, the experts will proceed to "an in-depth morphological badysis of the results", but for now, you can not predict how long it will take, said the spokesman for the Holy See: Alessandro Gisotti.
