Spanish justice investigates the death of a former leader of the Venezuelan national oil company PDVSA, found hanged in a house in Madrid Two days after starting to collaborate with the investigating judge in a money laundering case, the Spanish press reported today.

Juan Carlos Márquez, 48, was found hanged yesterday in a house in Madrid's Alcobendas district. His case is under investigation by the Spanish national court, revealed the sources of the investigation.

Pedraz took his statement Friday after his arrest and released him with precautionary measures because he had helped to confess the facts related to the case, sources said.

Marquez had booked a ticket to Chicago, USA, after his statement, but could not take that plane.

The case investigates the collection of 4.5 million euros by Alejo Morodo, son of the diplomat, entered into false legal contracts with PDVSA between 2012 and 2015, when Raúl Morodo was no longer an ambbadador to Venezuela.

The anti-corruption prosecutor suspects that this money has been laundered through a complex conspiracy of companies created by Alejo Morodo and other people who have also been the subject of an investigation.
