The Afghan authorities on Wednesday carried the number of dead in Kabul between 63 and 80 suicide bombings last Saturday, in which 182 people were also wounded, according to the Islamic State (IS) jihad group.
"The balance of deaths was previously 63. It has risen to 80. Some of the seriously injured have succumbed to their injuries at the hospital in recent days"said the spokesman of the Ministry of the Interior, Nasrat Rahimi. The source explained that 30 of the wounded were in critical condition and 17 died.
The suicide bombing, which consisted of two detonations – the self-immolation of a militiaman and then the car bomb explosion at the entrance – occurred in a wedding hall located in a district of the capital, inhabited by a religious minority, a ceremony took place.
Although in the past the minority faced attacks in educational and religious centers, attacks on marriages were less frequent.
"After the attack, the Kabul police organized a meeting with the owners of the wedding hall and we are working to take additional security measures."said the police spokesman for the capital, Firdaws Faramarz.
The source, quoted by the EFE news agency, added that a high number of women and children died in the attack.
The attack provoked a wave of indignation between the Afghan community and the international community and took place two days before the 100th anniversary of the independence of the Asian nation, forcing the government to delay or cancel some of the official acts planned.
The Afghan president, Ashraf GhaniHe blamed the Taliban for preparing the ground for other groups to commit such attacks against the civilian population.
At the same time, the Taliban denied being behind the attack and condemned the act committed while waiting for a peace agreement with the United States .
