While Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was actively participating in his first military parade on the occasion of Brazil's Independence Day, calling on the population to "wear green and yellow", thousands of people were taking part. Students demonstrated in the main cities of Brazil dressed in black, as a form of protest, mainly against cuts in education and environmental policies of the government.

The organization of the parade provided for the participation of 40,000 people, but only about 4,500 people attended, counting the army and members of various security forces, according to local press.

A few kilometers from the Esplanade of Ministries of Brasilia, where the event unfolded, thousands of students called by the National Union of Students demonstrated, clothed and their faces painted in black, against Bolsonaro. The students joined the traditional "Cree of the Excluded" this year, a mobilization led by religious, political and trade union groups that express each September 7 various social demands.

On this occasion, the students added to the day of protest the refusal of the governmental cuts in public education and the anti-environmentalist rhetoric of the president, to whom they attributed, with their bad policies, the multiplication of fires in Amazon. "Today, the Negro is an answer to Bolsonaro, who called on the Brazilian people to wear green and yellow to defend the Amazon.But it's mocking the people because it is responsible for the destruction of the Amazon, the destruction of education and for the destruction of universities, "said Iago Montalvao, president of the UNE, at one of the demonstrations on the 39; iconic Paulista Avenue in São Paulo.
