Google Earth saw a submerged car and ended with a mysterious disappearance of 22 years

It took 22 years, but the remains of a missing man were finally found thanks to a person who had enlarged a Google Earth image of his old neighborhood in Florida and saw a car submerged in a lake, authorities said.

The remains came from William Moldt, who died in 1997 at the age of 40, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Police spokeswoman, Teri Barbera, said Thursday that a former president of the Grand Islands neighborhood in Wellington was seeing the neighborhood on Google Earth when he had enlarged an image of the lake and had seen something which looked like a car.

The person contacted a current resident who, with the help of a drone, confirmed that there was a white car at the edge of the pond behind his house.

The man called the police on August 28th. When the officers arrived, they discovered that the exterior of the white sedan was "heavily calcified". After removing the vehicle, they found human remains inside.

The National Missing and Unidentified System indicates that Moldt went to a nightclub in November 1997, but did not appear to be drunk when he left alone before midnight.

He had called his club girlfriend to tell him that he would be returning home soon to Lantana. The area was in urbanization when Moldt disappeared, but the pond was already there.

Barry Fay, who found the vehicle, said The Palm Beach Post I had never seen anything unusual on the shore. "I did not think there was a corpse for 22 years," Fay told the newspaper.
