A satellite photograph of the Google Earth service found the remains of a man who disappeared 22 years ago in Florida, USA, according to police authorities in that state.
The picture in question shows a pond in the city of Wellington, a coastal town, where you can clearly see a submerged car near the shore. Although it has been accessible to the public since 2007, so far only one has noticed the detail of the photo and reported it to the police.
The discovery is due to a former resident of the residential complex The Grand Isles, who saw the silhouette of the car while he was conducting a search of the area on Google's satellite service. He then decided to inform the nearest owner of the site, who checked the discovery by means of a drone and made contact with the authorities.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office confirmed the presence of the vehicle in the lagoon and indicated that its exterior was "heavily calcified" to have remained under water for years.
"When removing the vehicle, remains of a human skeleton were found inside," officials said. They then indicated that they had been identified as belonging to William Moldt on Tuesday and reported missing in November 1997.
According to files from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons (NamUs), Moldt, a 40-year-old mortgage broker, called his girlfriend after drinking drinks in a nightclub, promising to return soon at home, but after sitting behind the wheel, he never reached his destination.
