The decision was taken by Moreno following the resumption of demonstrations by the indigenous movement, which on Saturday took and paralyzed the city of Quito by a massive operation of parades and pickets, while thousands of activists clashed with forces of movement. order in the center of the city, whose access remains blocked.

The curfew decision was circulated after the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) announced that it was accepting President Moreno's proposal for dialogue.

Although he initially refused categorically to talk to Moreno if he did not reconstitute the fuel subsidies, the main requirement of the demonstrations, the Conaie changed position.
