New York Attorney General Letitia James reported that the Facebook antitrust investigation, initiated by his state, now has the support of 47 Attorneys General of both parties.

Demand is focused on the fact that the social network, through its dominant position, stifles competition, limits consumer choice and costs advertisers more. New York and some states opened the investigation last week.

"The group is also worried about how Facebook manages customer data "said James. This is the subject of a survey since some companies were able to obtain information to try to influence the 2016 presidential election.

The social network and other giant technology companies are being investigated by federal regulators. The US Federal Trade Commission recently fined Facebook $ 5,000 for violating confidentiality rules.

"Our investigation now has the support of 47 Attorneys General across the country, all concerned that Facebook may have endangered consumer data, reduced the quality of options available to consumers and increased the price of advertising." James added in a statement.

"We will use all the research tools at our disposal to determine if Facebook's actions have stifled competition and put users at risk," he said.

The Facebook counteroffensive

The founder of the social network, Mark Zuckerberg, said that he was ready to "go to battle" fight against attempts by administrations to reduce the giant of social networks.

Zuckerberg emphasized the argument that fragmentation of society will not solve the problems posed by critics and, on the contrary, may aggravate them.

He must declare Wednesday before the House of Representatives explanations on Libra, the virtual currency that drives his company.
