A three year old girl she was saved alive after being trapped in the rubble for more than three days after the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Turkey, killing more than a hundred and injuring nearly a thousand.

The news came from the mayor of Izmir. “We witnessed a miracle 91 hours later. Rescuers have recovered Ayda alive, ”Tunc Soyer announced on his Twitter account.

The girl was rescued to applause in the Bayrakli district, severely affected by the earthquake last Friday. “In these times of suffering, we also had this moment of happiness,” added the mayor.

Wrapped in an aluminum blanket, the little girl was evacuated on a stretcher to a hospital by teams from the Emergency and Disaster Management Agency (AFAD). Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan celebrated the news on Twitter of “a miracle called Ayda”. “Your smiling eyes gave us new hope,” he wrote.

How did he survive

The daughter, Ayda Gezgin, was sitting in the kitchen of one of the collapsed buildings when the emergency teams arrive, in a hollow left intact between the counter and the washing machine, according to one of the professionals who accompanied her on the NTV television network.

“We heard a voice, we asked who was there and they said, ‘I’m Ayda, I’m fine.’ We told him, ‘Wait, we’ll get you out’ and we headed over to where he was, ‘one of the rescuers later said.

According to the lifeguard, the young girl was conscious and without apparent damage: “Nothing had happened to her, I was seated and I was waiting. “

Doctor Ersin Çoban, who accompanied the little girl in the ambulance, assured the Turkish press shortly afterwards that the youngest was fine, had no bruises or scratches and a CT scan confirmed that she also had no internal injuries.

From the moment rescuers heard the girl speak until the moment they reached her, an hour and a half passed, team members said.

It is believed that his mother, Fidan Gezgin, is still under the rubble, while his father, Ugur, a former football referee, and his brother Atakan were rescued and are now with Ayda. Already yesterday, Ugur Gezgin had told the rescue teams that his daughter and his wife were in the family home at the time of the earthquake, inside one of the buildings which collapsed.

Since last Friday, the death toll has risen to 102 in Izmir, the only Turkish province to have recorded deaths. In addition, a thousand people were injured and 107 were rescued alive from the rubble.
