The crash occurred on a flight from Birmingham Airport to Malaga, Spain, as they flew over the county of Oxfordshire.

The aircraft nose windows detached and the cabin was depressurized.

Although his seat belt was fastened, the pilot was violently sucked through one of the windows, while flight attendant Nigel Ogden fell to the ground after being struck by a door which also came loose.

The employee was able to grab Lancaster’s legs, who was already halfway through the window, and with the help of another crew member, John Heward, they were able to hold him.

Co-pilot Alistair Atchinson took control of the aircraft and issued the distress alert.

The control tower told him to make an emergency landing, still with his partner hanging from the cockpit.

Lancaster managed to survive. He suffered several fractures and frostbite of the upper limbs.
