The Vatican is investigating the “like” in the photo of a scantily clad Brazilian model that was taken on Pope Francis’ official Instagram account.
It is not known when the account clicked “like” on the image of Natalia Garibotto, who appears dressed in a school uniform.
News sites on the Internet began reporting the incident last Friday, before the image’s action was changed to “dislikes” on the platform.
Now the Vatican has reported that officials from the Holy See are investigating details of what happened in the Pope’s account.
The papal press office told the BBC that, “as far as is known, ‘the like’ did not come from the Holy See.” The Vatican is in contact with Instagram to determine where it is from, the source added.
- The Pope’s official Instagram account, which appears under the username Franciscus, has 7.4 million subscribers worldwide.
Last Tuesday, sources close to the Vatican press office informed the Catholic News Agency that the accounts were “managed by a team of employees” and that an internal investigation was underway.
Garibotto commented to an Instagram follower that she was “excited” by the “like” because she was a nun.
“At least I’ll go to heaven,” he wrote on Twitter.
