It was worth 5 million dollars and measures 100 meters long: it is the bridge “forbidden to people” that amazes the United States

The signage is clear: no one can cross this bridge. It doesn’t matter that its 100 meters long avoids one of the busiest highways in the state of Utah, United States. It’s clear and simple, not allowed.

There is a reason, of course: Sometimes this bridge is exclusively for animals. Its name: the “Parleys Canyon Wildlife Flyover”.

Located on Interstate 80 (near Salt Lake City), it was built about a year ago on the initiative of the Wildlife Division of the State, in collaboration with the Department of Transport.

Statistics help understand why they decided to spend $ 5 million to build it: over the past 2 years, there were 106 traffic accidents at this precise location which involved animals. In all, 64 of them died. Now the authorities have declared the project a success.

The good news was shared on Facebook by the Wildlife Division, who were more than happy with the outcome. “It works!”, they wrote in a publication accompanied by a video showing what happened on the bridge.

In this recording you can see how bears, deer, foxes, porcupines and other animals they cross the bridge in complete safety, without risking their lives and without any vehicle passing near them.

“From what we can tell, the number of accidents has been considerably reduced. At least initially, it seems that the investment in security is paying off. We expected several years to pass before animals will get used to using itSo that’s awesome, ”John Gleason, spokesperson for the Utah Department of Transportation, told the Salt Lake Tribune.

The official also said that they decided to make the bridge “attractive to animals”, they therefore decorated it with small stones, rocks and earth, as well as protective wire. “We want the bridge to be as much of a part of the environment as possible. It’s a victory for both the wildlife and the people who drive on the road, ”he said.
