Social Mask is a new model of transparent mask that also incorporates several smart functions, such as air analysis to detect pathogens such as Covid-19 and asymptomatic people, measure user temperature and notify d ‘possible risky contacts.

It is the work of Romanian engineer Burzo Ciprian, and the idea won him the award of the Pandemic ResponseCoLab competition from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in a challenge that proposed to reinvent masks, as explained by l author on the Behance site.

The social mask is made of plastic materials created by 3D printing and consists on the front of a modular device consisting of a biosensor, a Bluetooth sensor and a fan.

On the side, there is an air filter for better ventilation, a temperature sensor and a small LED screen to display the user’s body temperature.

As its creator explains, the mask and its biosensors are able to analyze airborne particles to detect asymptomatic people infected with Covid-19.

The use of a Bluetooth sensor allows the smart device to connect to the mobile phone, from which the user can know through an application his body temperature and the analysis of particles in suspension during breathing.

In case of detection of indicators of contagion, such as pathogenic particles in the air such as an increase in fever, the application notifies the user to contact a doctor and expresses by a percentage the chances that he is infected with a coronavirus.

Likewise, Social Mask is similar in operation to close contact tracing apps like Covid Radar, as it can detect other masks from a distance of up to 300 meters and whether its users have a fever or not. , as well as informing people in case of risk of contact.
