The Office of the Liturgical Celebrations of the Sovereign Pontiff has announced – through a Communiqué published by the Press Service of the Holy See – the dates and times of the celebrations that Pope Francis will preside over this Christmas period and the celebrations for the start of the year 2021.

December 12: Mass for the Virgin of Guadalupe

Before the Christmas holidays, this Saturday, December 12, at 11 a.m., in St. Peter’s Basilica, the Pontiff will preside over Holy Mass for the 125th anniversary of the Coronation of Our Lady of Guadalupe. As we know, the Apostolic Penitentiary, by order of the Holy Father, has granted a plenary indulgence to the faithful from all over the world who will celebrate the event from their homes, since the Mexican Basilica will be closed from December 10 to 13 due to the health limits to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Christmas 2020

On Thursday, December 24, solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord, Pope Francis will preside over the Holy Mass of the Rooster, in Saint Peter’s Basilica, at 7:30 p.m. The next day, Friday December 25, solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord, the Bishop of Rome will direct his “Urbi et Orbi” Blessing from Saint Peter’s Basilica to the city and to the world at 12 noon.
