New strain of coronavirus: how effective are the vaccines developed

The appearance of a new strain of coronavirus in UK, each much more contagious than the next, put epidemiologists on alert and worried. This mutated strain forced the reconfinement of London and south-east England and led several countries to suspend their flights from British territory on Sunday.

British government science adviser Patrick Vallance explained that this variant of SARS-CoV-2, in addition to spreading rapidly, becomes the “dominant” form, which led to “a very sharp rise” in hospital admissions in December.

From the German Ministry of Health, experts believe that vaccines against Covid-19 they are efficient against the mutated strain that was detected in the UK.
