After applying Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine, a 32-year-old Mexican doctor suffered severe reactions and had to be admitted to Nuevo León.

Karla Cecilia Pérez Osorio, originally from Veracruz and working in Monclova, Coahuila, received the Pfizer vaccine on December 30, for which she was immediately put on medical treatment for the side effects.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (EAD) is characterized by “a brief but intense attack of inflammation of the brain and spinal cord that damages myelin, the protective coating of nerve fibers,” which occurs after a viral infection or, less commonly, after a vaccine against measles, mumps or rubella.

Among the symptoms they identify are: fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting and in severe cases, convulsions and coma.

Consequences

Angel Palestino Gallardo, Karla’s husband and cousin reported that although this has evolved, the doctor may have sequelae. They also called on local health authorities to investigate and not downplay the case.

It’s a statement, the ministry of health commented that Pérez Osorio presented a picture of rash, seizures, decreased muscle strength, paralysis of the arms and legs, frequent seizures and respiratory distress.

It was Karla’s family who sought help via social media directly from the Executive Director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security, Zoé Robledo. Then his transfer to a specialized hospital in Nuevo León was ordered.
