The government of Uruguay has authorized, through Decree 16/021, the entry of persons covered by some of the exceptions of the decrees issued in March and June 2020. People can seek authorization from President Luis Lacalle Pou and the ministers concerned.
The decree mentions “the need to adapt the procedures for restricting entry into the country”. The envisaged exceptions are foreigners residing in the country, aircraft and ship crews, transport driversaccredited diplomats Brazilians who can demonstrate their border status, refugees and also in the event of family reunification.
“The border closures have not been relaxed. The legal framework has been adapted so that exceptions to entry are always decided by the president and the respective minister.” The deputy secretary of the presidency, Rodrigo Ferrés, wrote on his Twitter account. Last week, Lacalle Pou’s government extended the border closure until January 30 after recording a record number of contagion in daily reports.
Last December, the government reported a new restriction on crowds of people, which quickly led to the cancellation of this year’s carnival parade by the city of Montevideo government. The parade takes place every year on Avenida 18 de Julio, the city’s main one.
In the latest report published by the National Emergency System (Sinae), he indicated that 7,826 analyzes and 947 new cases of Covid-19 have been detected, including 604 in Montevideo and have confirmed seven new deaths from the coronavirus. At present there is a total of 7,478 cases of people suffering from the disease and 103 of them are in intensive care.
The Sinae also reported that in recent weeks “128 people have died from coronavirus, the same number as those who died between March 13 and December 23, 2021.
On the other hand, the national emergency system warned today that due to an error in the data loading system “the system could not reflect” 425 active cases from December 29, 2020 to January 7, 2021 .
