Biden prepares certain restrictions due to advance of coronavirus

The president of the United States, Joe biden, was preparing to sign today a decree intended to keep in force travel restrictions in the country from Europe and Brazil, to which he added South Africa, due to the spread of the coronavirus which already infects more than 25 million of its population, said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

“Today, the president will sign an executive order to reduce the spread of covid-19 through travel, especially since we are seeing variants spreading more rapidly around the world, ”Psaki announced.

Biden “I have decided to maintain the restrictions previously in force for the European Schengen area, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and Brazil and, in light of the contagious variant B1351, South Africa has been added to the shortlist ”, explained the official, according to the Sputnik news agency.

In the case of people who have a US passport, must show a negative coronavirus test carried out within a period not exceeding 72 hours.

The announcement came soon after Donald trump decided in his final days as president to lift those restrictions, based on a decision by the National Network of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which agreed that it would be enough for passengers internationals test negative upon entry.

One of the first measures Trump adopted after the outbreak of the pandemic was cancel the arrival of international flights, originally from China, a country he has repeatedly blamed for the global health crisis.

After China, and also in March, European countries and Iran were next to suffer from the restrictions.

Travel from Brazil was first restricted in May, after the South American giant began recording figures that placed it as the second with the most deaths and the third for cumulative cases.

As, United States added 146,379 confirmed cases of coronavirus in past 24 hours, after yesterday having passed the barrier of 25 million people infected since the start of the pandemic.
