Coronavirus in Mexico on February 19: 857 deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours

The afternoon of this Friday 19 February 2021, of the National Palace, the health authorities reported the existence of 857 new deaths caused by COVID-19 disease in the past 24 hours. With this, a total of 178,965 deaths since the start of the health emergency. This week the figure was 9%, meaning it increased by one point compared to the previous period.

However, there is also 1,584,704 people who recovered and were granted medical leave after treating symptoms. In addition to 418,931 cases in which both men and women benefited from the full program vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the country.

There was also a recording of 7,829 new cases, with a total of 2,030,491 cumulative confirmed cases since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, 5,236,429 people were studied and 2,768,503 tests were negative for contagion.

In addition, on the sixth day of the fifth epidemiological week, the existence of 2,226,306 estimated cases. On another side, 56,123 people (3%) experienced symptoms in the past 14 daysTherefore, they are considered active cases and may contribute to the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus among the rest of the population.

Regarding the saturation of hospitals, Dr Ana Lucía de la Garza Barroso, Director of Epidemiological Operations Research, indicated that 36% of general beds in the country are occupied. With this, the figure has decreased by one point compared to yesterday. In this direction, of the 31,549 beds without assisted breathing, 11,502 are in service and 20,047 are available. In addition, no state has reported an overall bed occupancy greater than 70%.

Meanwhile, four states reported occupancy between 50% and 69%, while 28 reported less than 50% occupancy. On this day, Guanajuato returned to the lowest professional stratum with a percentage of 43.

On the other hand, in beds with ventilation support, that is, for the care of patients in intensive therapy, it has been announced that national occupancy is 38%. The figure recorded is two points below that referenced the day before. In reality, Of the 11,534 ventilation beds in Mexico, 4,407 are occupied and 7,127 are available.

In addition, three states reported occupancy ranging from 69 to 50 percent and 29 entities have less than 50% occupancy in ventilated beds. No entity exceeds 70% and Colima joined the states with the lowest hospital occupancy at 49 percent.

Regarding vaccination, Today 167,453 doses have been placed across the country, according to what was reported by Dr Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion. The only entity that has completed with vaccine package distributed in the first shipment is on Mexico.

In this way, of 24 December 2020, when the first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been applied, a cumulative 1,574,158 doses placed. Since February 14, the application graph has increased exponentially, due to the latest vaccine shipments from Pfizer-BioNTech, as well as Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

Of all vaccinated health workers, 66 percent have already had both injections.
