During a press conference at the National Palace, Gabriela Nucamendi Cervantes, Director of Epidemiological Surveillance of Noncommunicable Diseases, reported that from week 5 to week 6 of 2021, the curve of estimated cases showed a decrease 26%, while that of the recovered also reported a decrease 27%.

The specialist estimated that the epidemic at the national level consists of 53,409 active cases that started with signs and symptoms within the past 14 days (February 8-21) and that if they do not follow all health measures, they could potentially contribute to the transmission of the virus.

In addition to this, he pointed out that the number of estimated active infections has already been overcome by the number of people who received the complete vaccination against the coronavirus (453,055).

In this sense, according to the technical document, Mexico City and the State of Mexico these are the entities with the highest number of active cases, followed by Guanajuato, Querétaro, Nuevo León, Puebla, Jalisco, Tabasco, Morelos and San Luis Potosí; together, they represent 78% of active cases in the country.

This is reflected in the colors of the epidemiological traffic light which will remain until February 28, when Guerrero and Guanajuato are the only entities in red (maximum risk); Campeche, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Durango, Tamaulipas and Tabasco in yellow (Medium risk); and only Chiapas in verde (Low risk).

In Orange (high risk): Mexico City, State of Mexico, Morelos, Tlaxcala, Puebla, Oaxaca, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Baja California Sur, Veracruz, Yucatán, Zacatecas and Quintana Roo. For the moment, no entity has changed color.

Regarding people hospitalized due to COVID-19 disease, Nucamendi Cervantes said that thenational occupancy was 34%.

However, according to the Serious Acute Respiratory Infection Network (SARI), there is 21,127 general beds available and 10,321 (33%) occupied mainly in Mexico City with 60%; Puebla with 53%; and the State of Mexico with 53%; the rest of the states concentrate less than 50% of the occupation.

Meanwhile, from 11129 beds with mechanical ventilator for the most critical COVID-19 patients, 4,106 (37%) are employed in the country, mainly in Mexico City with 62%; the rest of the 31 states have less than 50% hospital occupancy.

With regard to deaths due to complications of the disease, the Mexico City, State of Mexico, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Puebla, Nuevo León, Veracruz, Baja California, Sonora and Coahuila they are ranked among the 10 entities which recorded the highest number of deaths and which together represent more than half (64.5%) of all those in the country.

In addition, until yesterday there was 20,317 presumed deaths from COVID-19 which include the slopes by laboratory (n = 4,134) and those in the process of association – clinical – epidemiological judgment (n = 16,183) in SISVER.

With the numbers above, Mexico ranks thirteenth in the world for number of infections and the third place with the most deaths from the pandemic, behind the United States and Brazil, according to the American University Johns Hopkins.

The federal government applied 1,689,158 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in the country, but yesterday 16,738 people received an injection of antigen. In contrast, the number of vaccines lost stands at 1375 (0.8%).
