AMLO on the García Cabeza de Vaca case: “Revenge is not my strength, but neither are we a cover”

The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured this Wednesday in his press conference that “no one is persecuted”, but specified that he would not be an accomplice either, referring to the case of the governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza. de Vaca, where the Attorney General’s Office asked Congress to violate it, for possible involvement in various crimes, including organized crime.

For his part, the Attorney General of Mexico, Alejandro Gertz Manero, denied that the accusation of corruption against the governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, is a “revenge” political in nature and guaranteed “transparency” throughout the process.

“There will be no lack of transparency, there will be no question of political revenge because practically the trial will be public before Congress”, said the prosecutor, who was present at President López Obrador’s morning conference.

The FGR on Tuesday petitioned the Chamber of Deputies to lift the immunity of the governor of Tamaulipas, of the opposition National Action Party (PAN), in order to prosecute him for organized crime, operation with resources of illicit origin and equal tax evasion.

After hearing the news, Cabeza de Vaca denounced on Twitter that “A political attack is orchestrated” against him, and he accused “the factious use of justice” by the federal government of López Obrador.

The attorney general replied on Wednesday that the proceedings against the governor will have “Clarity” because “all the evidence” against him will be presented to Congress so that the deputies can decide whether or not to lift their jurisdiction and allow him to be prosecuted.

“We submit to all the deputies of all parties so that they analyze this matter and can deal with it in full transparency, because otherwise, there will be no clarity. So that they can be calm, ”defended Gertz Manero.

For his part, President López Obrador demanded on Wednesday that, if there are complaints of corruption, “nothing is covered, anyone”.

“We are not persecuting anyone, but I also remember that we are not the cover for anyone,” the president stressed.

The Chamber of Deputies must ratify the request for violation on Thursday, January 25.

According to what has been reported by the local press, in recent months A complaint has been filed against Cabeza de Vaca for illicit enrichment valued at $ 46 million.
