Documents from Mexican and American authorities on Wednesday revealed the failed attempt by Emma Coronel, detained in the United States, to a last and third flight from her husband, Joaquín el Chapo Guzmán, following his arrest in 2016.

Information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) indicates that Coronel paid the Mexican prison system official $ 2 million to cancel Chapo’s transfer to Ciudad Juárez prison from Altiplano prison, hence the capo escaped in 2015.

Colonel, arrested Monday in the state of Virginia, incurs a minimum sentence of ten years in prison and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, in addition to a possible fine of $ 10 million, if he is guilty of the drug trafficking charge against him.

The media approved a ground survey of the Altiplano prison which identified at least five signs of tunnels, for which authorities have moved Chapo to Ciudad Juárez, where the ground makes it difficult to dig a tunnel.

Officials also told the newspaper that they had not allowed him one visit per month to the woman, who went to both the Altiplano prison and Ciudad Juárez.

As the FBI recalled, El Chapo was never able to get out of Ciudad Juárez prison and his extradition to the United States took place in 2017, where a New York court sentenced him to imprisonment in life in 2019 for drug trafficking.

Chapo’s first arrest took place in 1993 and 1995 He was transferred to the now closed Puente Grande prison, from which he escaped in January 2001 by bribing the guards.

Although Emma Coronel has been singled out for years of involvement in her husband’s business, until now she has never been the subject of a direct investigation.
