Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Joe Biden, The Presidents of Mexico and the United States had a virtual meeting to discuss issues such as bilateral cooperation on migration, the response to COVID-19 or against climate change.

However, a sentence that Andrés Manuel said to his counterpart during the session caught our attention; as he remembered a saying historically attributed to former President Porfirio Díaz.

“A Mexican president said he lasted a bit in government, dominated for 34 years, or a phrase is attributed to Porfirio Díaz who said:“ Poor Mexico, so far from God and so close to the United States ”; now i can say … blessed Mexico, so close to God and not so far from the United States“Said before a sluggish Joe Biden.

The phrase, however, could also be attributed to Nemesio García Naranjo, born in Nuevo León and with a life entirely devoted to the creative writing, journalism, history and even politics.

His official biography recounts that he was a federal deputy at the age of 27 in the XXV legislature and secretary of the minutes to the Congress of the Union in 1910, but in 1911 the Díaz regime fell and with Francisco M. de Olaguíbel and José María Lozano they formed the most important opposition bloc this year.

However, his artistic and creative ambitions led him to the world of journalism, where he worked for different media across the world, while creating various books.

The famous phrase, on the other hand, would have been born in the exile of Monterrey, which then gave it to general knowledge through one of his articles in the press, according to journalist Aquiles Siller of the portal MX policy.

Naranjo had to leave Mexico several times because of his support for the Diaz movement and ideas contrary to those of the constitutionalists. Writer and politician died in 1962 in Mexico, later buried in the French Pantheon.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador and US President Joe Biden held a virtual bilateral meeting to discuss mechanisms for cooperation on migration issues and advancing joint efforts to promote development in southern Mexico and the northern triangle of Central America.

In a statement, the president’s press office reported that the two leaders pledged to work together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, revitalize economic cooperation and explore areas of collaboration in the face of climate change. They also stressed the importance of fighting corruption and cooperating on security issues.

In the “Joint Mexico-United States statement” The cooperation mechanisms are defined for three predominant themes between the peoples of the United States and Mexico:

Bilateral and multilateral cooperation on migration; bilateral cooperation for the response and recovery of COVID-19, as well as bilateral cooperation against climate change.

On its own, AMLO pointed out that your political opponents are wrong about the treatment you can get from Biden, since, he assured, it is a democrat respectful of the self-determination of nations.

“Conservative and corrupt opponents think they’re going to back down because the President of the United States is going to call. Well it’s not like that, because the President of the United States is respectful of our sovereignty, as we are respectful of the sovereignty of the United States», He expressed.
