“I-5 Strangler”, rapist and serial killer, killed in prison | the Chronicle

Known as the “I-5 Strangle”, Roger kibbe, 81, was a murderer serving six consecutive life sentences for raping and murdering multiple women in the 1970s and 1980s around Interstate 5 in California, United States. He killed them all the same way, with strangulation.

This weekend, the management of Mule Creek Jail reported his death. It is not yet clear how and why Kibbe died, but investigators are investigating the incident as a homicide. Kibbe was convicted in 1991 of the murder of Darcie frackenpohl. However, thanks to the criminal’s DNA, he could be linked to six other murders. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to the deaths and was sentenced to six more life sentences.

Kibbe’s calculated tactic to target his victims was to help women whose cars had broken down on the freeways south of Sacramento in the wee hours of the morning. After offering help, he kidnapped them and took them to remote places where he strangled them with his own clothes. During the hearing, relatives of the victims described him as “monster”.
