The Santiago del Estero judge sentenced a woman to life imprisonment who, on December 18, 2017, suffocated a baby who had given birth moments before with a piece of a towel and threw the body from baby to one channel.

The sentence was imposed on María Teresa Díaz, who was found responsible for the crime of capital homicide, according to the indictment of prosecutor María Alejandra Holgado.

Filicide, who worked as a domestic in a House from the town of El Zanjón, had given birth to a nine-month-old boy in a bathroom away from home. In his detailed description, Holgado said that the mother drowned the newborn baby with a piece of a towel, then placed the body in a bag and dumped it in a canal, a few feet from the house. That night, a couple retired from work at a nearby house and saw several dogs arguing over a bag with something inside. It was the baby’s body.

Feminist and human rights organizations analyze the life sentence.
