“Fill the wall with flowers”: the energetic response of the women to the fences of the National Palace by 8M

After last night, feminist collectives painted the names of some femicide victims in the metal fences of the National Palace, Different organizations have launched an appeal in which they are now calling on people to fill in the wall that López Obrador’s government has built flora.

The call indicates as the meeting point the fences, today, Sunday, at o’clock. 4:00 p.m.

Purple organizations point out that it’s another way of denouncing gender violence, where in addition to the flowers, they also invite you to place a ribbon and purple paper, which symbolize the feminist struggle against these attacks.

“The wall begins to fill with flowers to accompany the names of the victims. What a way to get around state aggression. If they can’t go at 4:00 p.m., go when you can. Let’s fill the wall with flowers. They will always be in our memory and our struggle, ”they called on Twitter.

At noon, through a video posted on social networks, Andrés Manuel López Obrador defended the already called “plain wall “ and responded to those who criticized the installation of security fences around the National Palace, in the face of the feminist march for the 8M to be held this Monday.

“It bothered them a lot because we erected a fence to protect the National Palace, it is not out of fear of women, it is as a precaution, because the conservative forces are very backward, very authoritarian, they infiltrate people to generate violence injure, Can you imagine allowing the National Palace to be vandalized?, because that’s what they want a scandal, a great national and international note, because we put this fence to protect the palace, so to do this, they accuse us of everything ”, declared the Mexican president in a video posted on their social networks.

“I want to clarify that we will never repress the people, we will never repress the people, it is better to put a fence than to put in front, the women who will protest, the grenadiers, as before, we cannot face them, we must avoid that, that there is no violence, that not the one is injured, injured, ”he added.

López Obrador assured that in Mexico it is possible to express and demonstrate freely, to the degree of insults, but, he said, He also has the obligation to take care of the historical heritage of the countryIn addition to not falling into the trap of violence.

This morning, the authorities of the government of the capital presented the protocol of action and security that will be implemented tomorrow during the march of the 8M in Mexico City.

In the press videoconference, the Undersecretary for Institutional Development of the Ministry of Citizen Security, Marcela Figueroa Franco, announced that there will be 1,700 policewomen spread along the route; in addition, 600 elements belonging to the Atenea group and 400 assigned to the secretariat of traffic control in charge of road regulation, parking control and guaranteeing pedestrian mobility within the scope of the mobilization.

Likewise, contingencies and medical emergencies will be assisted by the rescue squad and medical emergencies (ARE), which will deploy paramedics throughout the event.

For its part, the Government Secretariat will also deploy 300 women in orange vests attend the event at any time.

“In case there are people who use dangerous objects such as Molotov cocktails, hammers, pipes, sticks or any other object or weapon endangering the safety and integrity of demonstrators or people passing by will be requested, ”warned the official, assuring that this process will be carried out with respect for human rights.
