Julio “N” was captured at CDMX, alleged perpetrator of femicide in the Cuauhtémoc district in 2020

Elements of the investigation police (IDP) captured a man identified as July “N” for his alleged participation in a femicide perpetrated in the Cuauhtémoc district, in Mexico City, in the 2020.

Mexico City’s Attorney General’s Office reported that in 2020, the incidence in daily averages of rape, sexual harassment and domestic violence crimes increased compared to 2019, while crimes such as femicide, intentional homicide and sexual abuse have declined.

Rape investigation files increased from 1,316 in 2019 to 1,350 in 2020, an increase of 2.6%. While cases of sexual harassment rose from 884 to 1,002, an increase of 13.3%. Domestic violence cases increased from 20,262 to 21,348, or 5.4 percent.

During the alert report for violence against women, lawyer Ernestina Godoy explained that in 2019, 72 investigation files for femicide were opened, but last year 66 were registered.

The official said that despite the increase of three crimes out of the 10 crimes of violence against women, there was a decrease in the remaining six.

Intentional homicides decreased by 19.8%, sexual abuse by 22.9%, intentional injuries by 25.6%, kidnappings by 68% and human trafficking by 38.3%.

The official explained that in 2020, they reported 20,643 protective measures against women, which equates to 56 per day on average.
