On Monday, a Brazilian Supreme Court judge, Edson Fachin, overturned all convictions against former President Luiz Incio Lula da Silva for corruption and ordered to restart the investigation in other jurisdictions due to the alleged bias of the prosecutor and the former judge and former minister Srgio Moro.

Fachin made this decision by making way for a corpus of beans imposed by the defense of former President Lula as part of the causes promoted by Operation Lava Jato, now called into question.

The monocratic ruling of Fachin, a judge known to align with complaints and cases Operacin Lava Jato, came after the scandal generated by the leaked messages revealing what Lula and the PT have always denounced: the joint and secret work of prosecutors and then-judge Moro to convict the former president before he could participate in the last presidential elections.

Lula spent 580 days in prison in the city of Curitiba, capital of the state of Paran, and after being detained in the middle of an operation that was broadcast around the world, he had to give up his candidacy for good.

Former Judge Moro later became the Prime Minister of Justice of the president who won those elections, current President Jair Bolsonaro.
