In its second appearance, after overcoming the symptoms of COVID-19 disease, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, Under-Secretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, reported that yesterday the record number of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines applied in a single day was beaten.

Yesterday we had a record number of vaccinations in one day. 360,607 doses of vaccine Yes today we could very well achieve another record because at 4 o’clock in the afternoon we had vaccinated 208,330 people plus the data that will be presented in the next few hours, ”he said during the evening press conference on the situation of the new coronavirus in the country.

During yesterday’s update, the undersecretary showed that around 270,000 injections had been given. However, the information corresponded to the cut made at 4:00 p.m. Because there are vaccination centers that operate after this time, another cut was made at 10:00 p.m., where the new figure was recorded.

In fact, it was during the morning press conference of March 11 that Jorge Alcocer Varela, Secretary of Health, who announced the new figure. With the update of the number it was stated that in the afternoon of yesterday 83,521 people received part of the vaccination doses. Due to the trend, the Undersecretary announced that today the figure may be exceeded again.

As the number of vaccines applied daily has increased, health authorities are seeking to the roadrunner brigades reach the figure of 500 thousand injections. “If we did, it would lead us to we would finish vaccinating the entire adult population of Mexico by the middle of this yearLópez-Gatell said.

However, the claims of the federal government they depend, to a large extent, on the fact that the dates fixed and the quantity of doses contained in the consignments remain unchanged. It should be remembered that this situation has already occurred, when the Pfizer and BioNTech laboratories suspended deliveries of their vaccine for about a month.

This eventuality delayed initiation of the second dose of the regimen in healthcare workers. In addition, during this period it was also clarified that although the recommendation states that the regimen should be completed 28 days after the first injection, this can be extended up to 45 days.

Since December 24, 2020, when the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was administered, a cumulative 3,779,969 applied doses were recorded. Thus, with the implementation of the national immunization plan, the graph has seen a steady increase.

This number includes to medical staff, as well as teachers from Campeche and 2,338,208 older adults. Among these groups, only some people belonging to the first two already have the maximum level of vaccination, since they have received the full vaccination schedule.

Of the total number of people who received a dose of the vaccine, only 11,439 had adverse effects after its application. Likewise, on 71 occasions the response has been serious.

Although there are already five vaccines with emergency authorization from the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (COFEPRIS), only four have been implemented. These are the ones made by the Centro Gamaleia (SputnikV), Pfizer and BioNTech, Oxford and AstraZeneca, as well as SinoVac (Coronavac).
