Spain: they investigate the death of a teacher after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine

The health authorities of Spain they recognized this Wednesday to investigate three cases of people who suffered from thrombosis after receiving the vaccine AstraZeneca. One of them involves a 34-year-old deceased teacher.

The information was published by the Spanish Medicines Agency, two days after the government decided to suspend as a precaution, for at least two weeks, the administration of this vaccine against covid-19.

These cases occurred between Monday and Tuesday. Regarding the situation of the teacher who lost her life, He had no previous pathology and died from a cerebral hemorrhage.

Spain and other European countries such as Italy, Germany or France have suspended the administration of the vaccine for having detected that it produced serious side effects, like clots forming, which prevent good blood circulation. They can also cause swelling and even heart attacks and bleeding.

In his statement, the AEM mentioned the possibility that the cases analyzed respond to “the formation of clots in places which are not the most common”. For now, the organization has no conclusions about possible causation between the vaccine and the thrombosis suffered by these three people.

As he stated, “ he is collecting more information and conducting a full investigation as to whether, in addition to a temporary relationship with the administration of the vaccine, there is a possible causal relationship“.

In Spain, 975,661 people received the AstraZeneca vaccine until it was suspended. The other vaccines administered come from Pfizer / BioNtech and Moderna, in a country severely affected by the pandemic and which currently has more than 3.2 million confirmed cases and more than 72,500 deaths.

For the moment, the European Medicines Agency said she was “strongly convinced” that the benefits of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine outweigh its potential risks.
