Thirteen police officers died on Thursday after being ambushed by a group of armed civilians, as confirmed by local authorities. The agents, members of the prosecution and the state police, patrolled the area of ​​Llano Grande, in the municipality of Coatepec Harinas, in the State of Mexico, an entity in the center of the country plunged into the wave of crime.

The official convoy – a Jeep truck, van and sedan – left the municipality of Zacualpan towards Ixtapan de la Sal. Along the way, he was attacked by a group of men in possession of high caliber weapons. According to preliminary reports, the suspected gunmen were hiding in the Dry Leaf Mountains and in a nearby area known as Calle Vieja.

The lead truck – a Jeep in which five policemen were traveling – collided with the base of a pole when it was shot down. All the officers are deceased. Behind were the pickup truck and the sedan, with four and five officers on board, respectively. The police repelled the attack; however, they were more numerous in men and in arms.

On social networks, the audio of the police who asked for help circulated: “I ask for support at Puerta del Carmen, they are shooting at us, they are red for favor!”

On March 16, an operation was carried out in the commune of Zacualpan where three vehicles and a notebook were seized in which the hawking points and the bases of the criminal group were specified. Michoacan family.

The prosecution participated in the actions Abraham Hipólito Legorreta, which was yesterday at the point of attack. For these tasks, it is presumed that the ambush at Coatepec de Harinas was a response by the Michoacan cartel.

State officials called the ambush a coward and called the attack an organized crime affront to the Mexican state.

The event occurred on the same day as Almoloya de Alquisiras, State of Mexico, four kilometers from the first attack, four men in uniform were killed, who participated in a confrontation with criminals.

The state of Mexico – just minutes from the country’s capital – is one of the fronts in the fight against violence. The entity is disputed territory between Jalisco Next Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Michoacan family.

Regarding this latest criminal organization, the DEA warns that its operational capacity has deteriorated due to the capture and discouragement of its main leaders. He also points out that the Familia Michoacana has links with the CJNG and also works with other small groups to promote drug trafficking activities.
