They broke up an underground party of 560 people at the house of an Argentinian in Uruguay

The party had been promoted via social networks. The meeting place was a house in the town of Sauce from Portezuelo, about 15 kilometers from Punta del Este.

The invitations arrived via private message on Instagram, where the address and time of participation were detailed. The date was Thursday evening and a group of friends who had confirmed their presence he was alerted when he arrived on the property, he saw a large number of vehicles parked around him.

It was around 4 a.m. and after noticing the massive gathering of guests, they decided to warn the police to end this clandestine celebration where there were about 560 people, according to data provided by the Uruguayan police.

After receiving the call from the young people, the troops stormed the premises at around 4.30 a.m., where they verified that participants did not wear chin straps, they did not respect social distancing, and there were many more people than allowed for social gatherings.

“The police informed the prosecutor, who immediately gave the order to keep all the material with which the party was held.”, he said TN Carlos Medina, member of the General Directorate of Hygiene and the Environment of the Municipality of Maldonado.

“The stewardship, for its part, will now apply fines”, added Medina, protected by municipal resolutions based on Executive Decree 93.

The person responsible for carrying out the illegal part identified himself with an Argentinian DNI at the time of the police investigation“The main data we collect is that he is the owner of the house but we don’t know if he resides here all year round or only temporarily,” Medina said.

Since the pandemic was declared, the municipality of Maldonado dismantled around 30 underground parties. “Usually this is all done through networks and there are advance electronic payments or payments for consumption in place,” Medina reported.

The Sauce de Portezuelo party took place on the same day that Parliament extended the limit on the right of assembly for an additional 120 days, which means authorities have the power to limit the right to assembly and act en masse to avoid possible coronavirus infections.

The government used Law 19 932 which governs Article 38 of the Constitution, which allows to suspend “Crowds of people” which generate a “notorious health risk”.

The intention to extend this measure comes at a time when Uruguay has 10,923 people suffering from the disease, a record number so far in the health emergency, and 143 people in intensive care, also the highest since March last year.

This Friday, the report from the National Emergency System (Sinae) indicated that 15,002 examinations had been carried out (second highest number since March 2020) and 1,616 new cases of coronavirus have been detected.

Uruguay is going through a new epidemic of the first wave, with several consecutive days above 1,500 infections per day. According to the latest report from the national emergency system, the country has passed 75,000 cumulative cases.

Since March 13, 2020, the date on which the health emergency was declared, Uruguay has nearly 80,000 cases and 740 deaths.
