COVID-19 would have circulated in Florianópolis earlier than in China

After a study carried out by the microbiology laboratory of University of Burgos next to the brazilian Federal University of Santa Catarina, it was discovered that the coronavirus, contrary to what was believed to date, did not originate from Wuhan, China, but was already present a few months earlier in Florianopolis.

The research, which was published in the scientific journal Total environmental science, indicates that the coronavirus was already present in the city of Brazil between November 19 and 27, 2019, three months before the detection of the first case in the country.

The research coordinator, Alfonso David Rodríguez Lázaro, said in dialogue with Radio France Internationale: “This discovery in Florianopolis with other discoveries made in Paris, Milan and Barcelona, shows the virus was circulating before we realized we had a problem“.

After explaining that the study was carried out in the wastewater of Florianópolis, the scientist assured that “This discovery does not affect what has been scientifically proven on the traceability of SARS-Cov-2“.

However, other studies from various universities also revealed that the coronavirus was already in their respective countries weeks before the confirmation of the first case, thus confirming the idea that these results do not change the traceability developed so far.
