At least 50 more dead in new day of protests in Myanmar as coup plotters stage military parade

At least 50 people, including a 13 year old girl, died this Saturday due to the crackdown on new protests against the putschist military junta in various cities of Myanmar, where the number of demonstrators and activists killed far exceeds 300, as the army celebrates the day on the day of the armed forces.

The deaths occurred during protests in Rangoon, the country’s largest city, as well as Lashio, Mandalay, Meikhtila, Kyaukpadaung and Kyeikhto, among others, with many seriously injured, witnesses and local media reported.

As the army marches through the capital to commemorate Armed Forces Day, thousands of Burmese have returned to the streets to call for “Day Against Military Dictatorship,” led by General Min Aung Hlaing, who took the lead. power by a coup on February 1.

Police and soldiers brutally cracked down on protests again, shooting protesters and other civilians in the streets and inside their homes.

Most of the protests are peaceful, but some protesters are making precarious attempts to confront the uniforms with Molotov cocktails, slingshots and homemade pyrotechnic rocket launchers.

The Myanmar Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP) said in its latest report that the death toll from police and military violence stands at at least 328, a figure that does not include deaths of ‘today.

The military seized power on February 1 under the pretext of alleged electoral fraud in last November’s elections, in which the party of ousted leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi was destroyed. and declared legitimate by international observers.

Since the coup, the military junta has detained more than 3,000 people, including Suu Kyi and much of his government, most of whom are held incommunicado.
