Most of the new cases were detected in the capital (1764), St. Petersburg (708) and Moscow province (601). The cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic has reached 4,563,056 and the number of deaths has climbed to 99,633.

On August 11, Russia registered its first vaccine against covid-19, Sputnik V, developed by the Gamaleya Center in cooperation with the Russian Fund for Direct Investments. The vaccine consists of two components: the first is based on human adenovirus type 26, and the second is based on recombinant human adenovirus type 5. The drug is administered twice, with an interval of 21 days. On February 2, the British scientific journal The Lancet published the results of the third phase of the Russian vaccine clinical trial which confirmed its safety and efficacy of 91.6%.
