A baby is born with three penises in Iraq

An Iraqi baby was born with three penises, and according to the doctors who treated him is the first documented case of human triphalia.

“As far as we know, this is the first reported case with three penises or triphalia,” wrote Dr Shakir Saleem Jabali in a study on the case of this child published in the Case reports from the International Journal of Surgery.

The baby was born in the city of Duhok, in the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan, and I was three months old when it was discovered that he had three penises. His parents had taken him for a consultation because of a swelling of the scrotum.

According to the authors of the article, in the medical literature there are approximately 100 reported cases of infants who were born with two penises in the world since 1609. In 2015, it went viral for a boy from India to have three penises, but this could not be proven or published in any medical journal, so the Iraqi boy’s case would be the first. Penile duplication or diphalia affects one in 5 to 6 million live births, said Dr Shakir Saleem Jabali.
