Desperate Brazilians travel to Bolivia for vaccination

It was denounced by the head of the health network of the Bolivian province Ángel Sandoval, Javier Rivas Dalence, who declared that the Brazilians of the city of Cáceres, with relatives Saint Matthias (Bolivia), come to the country to be vaccinated.

The information was published by the Cáceres Notícias portal. Rivas, questioned by this media, asked Brazilian citizens not to enter Bolivian territory in search of the vaccine.

The city of Cáceres is only 70 kilometers from San Matías, which facilitates the movement of people between the two countries. However, the proliferation of a new variant of the coronavirus in Brazil, triggered alarms from the Bolivian health authorities, which has spread to other countries that share a border with the South American giant.

“It was decided to continue vaccination on Saturday and Sunday, 8,200 doses are arriving to vaccinate the population of the province and of San Matías. We ask people not to bring people from Cáceres or relatives from Brazil, as they can bring the P1 variant of the coronavirus“Rivas said.

Bolivia has tightened controls and the national government of Luis Arce has ordered the shipment of vaccines to the vast border that exists between the two countries, published the daily El Deber.

However, before the border closure that began on Friday, many Brazilians arrived in San Matías looking for a coronavirus vaccination.

Brazil’s coronavirus death toll topped 330,000, according to data released Sunday morning by Johns Hopkins University.

According to the American university, since the start of the pandemic, the South American country has recorded a total of 330,193 confirmed deaths from Covid-19 against 12,953,597 cases of contagion.
