Massively, 531 million records of confidential data belonging to users of Facebook are distributed. Among the leak there are 2 million Argentine users and the names of Mauricio Macri and Cristina Kirchner among other personalities.
The story began in September 2019 when Facebook itself acknowledged the leak of this information, it was on an unsecured company server. The Tech Crunch site validated the story and added that the repository with the information had been removed.
Some time later, a Telegram network ‘bot’ user marketed this database by returning search results after a brief payment. Why is this weekend relevant then?
// // Why does the mobile phone heat up, what are the dangers and how to avoid them
A Russian user posted to a Telegram account dedicated to news highlighting discloses a link that downloads a file called Facebook.txt and inside a country-by-country list with a link to download each other’s information. Without asking for money to access the information, the leak flies over the Internet.
What data does the leak reveal?
The most important information includes Facebook Account Recovery Phone Numbers, Facebook User ID, last name, first name, sex and place. These data are updated until 2019.
The publication of this information undoubtedly occurs because they made as much profit as possible. In the field of extortion, once the limit of what can be drawn from it is reached, the information is made accessible to everyone and therefore cannot be legally implicated.
Various Argentine personalities can be found in these lists. It is striking that Cristina Kirchner meets 14 times while Mauricio Macri meets 257 times. These “false” accounts of politicians, created to defame or promote them, now it is possible to know in these cases which phone was behind them with a possible identification. This opens the door to future legal action.
The danger of this leak is that there are 2 million Argentines identified, Facebook page against recovery phone. What could happen is that an attacker sends messages to the recovery phone, in some sort of way. Phishing, asking to reset Facebook account password and some unsuspecting might fall.
What will undoubtedly happen is that these 2 million Argentines will fatten up the “fed” databases that telemarketing companies use for telesales and proselytism.
