Argentina has made seven million vaccines, but Mexico does not package them

The Argentinian biotechnology company mAbxience has committed to manufacture the active substance, while the Mexican laboratory Liomont has completed the formulation and packaging process. Since the announcement of this agreement, the Mexican government has confirmed the arrival of two batches of the active substance AstraZeneca, from Argentina, to condition the equivalent to seven million dose.

Mexico has not concluded any AstraZeneca batches so far, according to the investigation, despite the fact that Under Secretary of Health Hugo López-Gatell said at the end of March that it would do so. . “the product ready for use in the public”.

As reported this week by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard, the Liomont laboratory has already completed the packaging of the first batches, but he is waiting for the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris) to approve them.

For the moment, neither the Liomont nor Cofepris laboratory have reported the number of packaged doses or the exact release date of this drug. Consulted by e-mail, the Mexican laboratory replied via its press link that “Liomont did not carry out any communication actions on the subject”.

The Mexican government has agreed that Liomont’s lab will complete packaging 77.4 million doses of AstraZeneca for internal use in the country, while the same plant will produce an additional 200 million doses. “for the Latin American market”.

With this significant demand for inputs produced by Mexico and Argentina, Ebrard said that Cofepris could market the first batches of AstraZeneca “the last week of April”, while in May there will be “very important deliveries”.
