Venezuela registers 456 health worker deaths due to COVID-19, after 14 new deaths of workers in this sector were added between April 6 and 8, denounced the United Doctors NGO who also warned of the need to speed up vaccination against the disease.

“Information is received from 14 new deaths of health workers with criteria for COVID-19 to reach 456, while official spokespersons report a total of 1,720 deaths in the country, “the NGO said in a message on Twitter.

Among the deceased are ten surgeons identified as María Elena Campos, Carlos Alberto Lucena, Fernando Vasetti, Daniel Micheli, Ana Mercedes Graffe de González, Argenis José Villalobos, Joaquín Vicente Hidalgo, Pedro Rafael Guillén, Yonfrank Echeverri and Renny Hernández.

Among the four other deceased are the nurses Jorge García, Marcela Garrido, Martha Belmont and the auxiliary nurse Celina Nava.

“Our reports are based on up-to-date clinical, epidemiological, diagnostic and laboratory criteria and are not necessarily included in the reports of official spokespersons,” the organization noted.

The five states with the highest number of deceased health workers are Zulia (north-west) with 82, the capital district with 67, Carabobo (center) with 41, Bolívar (south) with 36 and Anzoátegui (east) with 30.

The rest of the 19 entities recorded a number of deaths below 30.

According to the Venezuelan regime, 171,373 people have been infected with COVID-19, of which 1,720 have died.
