So much so that this Thursday, Emmanuel Macron visited Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and underlined the efforts made in the reconstruction work and thanked the 340,000 donors from around the world who helped make this work possible.

“A huge job has been done” in two years, said the President of France who expressed the “collective pride” to see the “Grande Dame” regain her body.

In this sense, the president of the public establishment responsible for its reconstruction, Jean-Louis Georgelin, informed that the phase of consolidation of the work of Notre-Dame will be completed during this summer which will give rise to the start of the restoration itself. At this time, among other advances, the selection and felling of the 1000 oaks whose wood will be used to reconstruct the frame of the transept and the spire has already been made, which will be faithful, but not identical to those destroyed in the fire.

“My concern now is to get rigorous planning to chart the course for the cult to reopen in 2024,” Georgelin said.

For now, it looks like the planned deadlines can be met, although the monetary factor could also work against Macron’s plans. So far they have been collected donations worth 833 million euros, but they might not be enough.
