Shooting at Indianapolis Post Depot: at least eight killed

At least eight people were killed in a shooting in the US city of Indianapolis Thursday night.said the police.

All the victims were found in a facility of the company Fedex, near the city’s international airport., where a gunman opened fire, police spokeswoman Genae Cook told reporters. Others were taken to hospital, police added, without specifying the number.

The event occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. local time (3:00 a.m. Friday GMT) at a FedEx warehouse near the Indianapolis airport where 4,500 people work.

In a brief cameo to the media, Indianapolis police spokeswoman Genae Cook announced that the person responsible for the attack had committed suicide.

Cook told reporters that officers recorded an “active shooter incident” in an installation of a postal company.

“We have several people with gunshot wounds.”said Cook, who also reported that several of them had been transferred to hospitals.

According to the police, several people were shot dead but they did not confirm their number or their status.

One person told media that a relative was inside his vehicle when the attacker opened fire.

Agents have been advised to relocate to the scene on the Mirabel promenade, according to Cook, local television network reports. WRTV.

Cook pointed out that officers are on scene, working and gathering information in a “mass casualty situation”.

In recent weeks there has been a spike in shootings in the United StatesThe one that happened on March 22 in a supermarket in Colorado, with 10 dead, the one that killed the most.

A week earlier, on March 16, a man killed eight people in various attacks on Asian massage parlors.

For his part, a spokesman for the state police of Indiana, John Perrine, reported via his Twitter profile the various cuts to the roads near the scene due to the police operation.

Perrine, an Indiana State Police information officer, asked relatives of Fedex employees to meet at a local Holiday Inn hotel.

Almost 40,000 people die each year in the United States from guns, and more than half are suicides.
