Young woman raped by 23 soldiers for 11 days

A 27-year-old woman was abducted on her way home with her young children and was repeatedly raped for 11 days for 23 soldiers in Ethiopia. In addition, the victim explained that she had been tortured and that the attackers had inserted nails and stones into her vagina.

The young mother was with her children, aged four and six, when the military took her out of a minibus to Adigrat, a town in the northern Tigray region, as the vehicle was believed to be too full. .

According to the victim’s account, the soldiers tied her up and took her through the fields to a camp where she was raped and beaten for over a week. In addition, she said the depraved woman inserted fingernails, cotton, plastic bags and a stone into her vagina. Then they abandoned her in the bush.

The villagers found the unconscious woman with a broken leg and took her to a nearby hospital. He was still bleeding from severe internal injuries and was unable to control urination, walk without crutches, or sit for long periods of time. While at the health center, he was unable to speak with his family because his cell phone was stolen during the ordeal.

Doctors in the region said the case is one of hundreds of horrific sexual violence committed by Ethiopian soldiers and Eritrean allies after fighting erupted in Tigray last November.
