France announced a 10-day quarantine for travelers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and South Africa

PARIS.- The French government announced on Saturday the imposition of a mandatory ten-day quarantine for travelers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and South Africa from April 24. This isolation will be accompanied by a restriction of exit times, with increased fines, and is justified by the presence of variants of the coronavirus in these countries.

In addition, the list of reasons and categories of persons authorized to enter France from these countries will mainly be reserved for French citizens, spouses and children, as well as citizens of countries of the European Union (EU) or of a third country who have their main residence in France.

The pre-shipment test system will also be strengthened: a negative PCR test of less than 36 hours (instead of 72 hours) will now be necessary, or a negative PCR test of less than 72 hours accompanied by a negative antigen test of less than 24 hours.

Any traveler arriving in France will be regularly tested for antigens before leaving the airport.

The French Ministry of Health reported 35,861 new infections on Saturday and 189 deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, to which the country adds 5,260,182 confirmed cases and 100,622 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Occupation of hospitals is particularly worrying, with 30,329 patients admitted for Covid-19, including 5,877 in intensive care units.
