Alonso Ancira left prison after reaching millionaire payment deal with Pemex

This April 19 Alonso Ancira Reno, owner of Altos Hornos de México, SA (AHMSA), left North Prison after agreeing with Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos) payment of $ 216.6 million for the regular sale of Agro Nitrogenados.

The businessman appeared that same day before a control judge in the said social reintegration center. In law, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) and the defense of Ancira Elizondo discussed the repair agreement under contract with the Mexican oil company.

The millionaire sum now owed by Ancira Reno was sufficient grounds for ordering the final stay of the judicial proceedings against him.

It must be remembered that it was at the beginning of February when the controlling judge Artemio Zuniga issued a justified preventive detention Alonso Ancira, arguing that he represented a risk of flight, for which he was admitted to the Northern Prison of Mexico City.

A flight from Spain arrived in Mexico on February 3 for its alleged involvement in the crime of operations with illicit resources.

While in prison, the dense faith of Ancira Reno demanded that the director of the penitentiary immediately guarantee and provide the medical care the businessman needs. In addition, it was requested that the corresponding drugs be provided. The above due to risk of contagion derived from the COVID-19 epidemic in Mexico.

“Taking into account the context of the pandemic derived from the COVID-19 virus, immediately take all the relevant preventions, actions and measures to control and / or avoid its contagion, he must therefore act under his strictest responsibility and report on the security measures implemented to preserve the health of the accused and, consequently, his life, ”explained the resolution of Judge Antonio González García.

In the repair agreement he signed with Pemex payment of the amount in three years has been determined. The first delivery is scheduled for April 30, the second a year later, in 2022, and the third on April 30, 2023.

It all dates back to 2013, when the director of the AHMSA allegedly bribed Emilio Lozoya, who ran Pemex in the Enrique Peña Nieto administration, with 3.5 million pesos. The aim of this movement was to influence in the purchasing process of the Agronitrogen fertilizer plant.

According to the file opened by the FGR, the acquisition process presented an irregularity: the buy-sell operation of the fertilizer producer was carried out at 10 times its actual cost, i.e. around 273 million pesos. This means that the budget of Pemex was affected by more than 200 million pesos when buying from an almost crumbling processor.

After learning about the investigation against him, the businessman left the country and was captured in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, in May 2019. Since his stay in the Iberian country, he has tried at all costs to avoid prison, for which he filed a series of injunctions to circumvent the extradition, and even offered to pay the surcharge obtained from the fraudulent transaction.
