Video: Boy fell on rails while walking with his blind mother and heroic rescue saved him just before he was run over by the train

A little boy in Mumbai was saved from certain death after falling on the train tracks thanks to the heroic rescue of one of the company’s employees, who ran to help the boy seconds before the train ran over him.

The footage lasts approximately 29 seconds, in which we see the little boy walking hand in hand with his mother, a 30-year-old woman who suffers from blindness. They get closer and closer to the edge of the platform until the boy slips and falls on the tracks.

Disconcerted, the woman tries to find her son and moves her hands in search of him without success. Because of the miner’s screams, she presumes that she fell on the train and tries to save it, but since she is blind, she cannot approach where she is.

At this moment, an employee of the Mumbai Central Railway walks in, running towards the boy. Towards the bottom of the image, the train is approaching. Then the employee walks between the rails, takes the little one and lifts it up to the platform, where he is greeted by his mother and others who witnessed the scene. Then he climbs up, just in time for the train to pass without leaving any casualties in its path.

It all happened at Vangani station, in the Thane district, last Saturday evening. The brave man is called Mayur Shelke, who for his actions received praise from Minister of Railways Poyush Goyal.

The video was shared on Mumbai Central Railway’s Twitter account, with a post extolling Shelke’s heroic deed: “Mumbai Division Mr. Mayur Shelkhe (Pointsman) saved the life of a child who lost the balance while walking on platform no. 2 at Vangani station.

Minister Goyal also added on Twitter: “Very proud of Mayur Shelke, a railway worker at Vangani Station in Mumbai who did an exceptionally courageous act, risked his own life and saved the life of a child“.

The Divisional Manager of the Central Railroad will reward Shelke for his bravery.

In statements to The Indian Express Shelke, who has worked with the railways for five years, said: “I was back on track. My job was to give the green signal to Udyan Express. It was just me and the station master standing on the platform. I saw Udyan Express heading towards the boy. I had to save his life and started running towards him. Within seconds, I panicked and thought about stepping back. I even slowed down. But I couldn’t see him die and I started running again“.

Shelke stays in Neral with his parents, wife and 10-day-old son. When asked how his family reacted to the incident, Shelke said: “I did not inform them for two days. But today the video went viral and they called me. At first my mom scolded me, then she said she was proud of what I had done. My wife was also scared, but now she is happy.
