Scandal in Chile: over 100 people vaccinated against COVID-19 with dog vaccines

More than 100 canine COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to people in the town of Calama in northern Chile in an unusual case that is currently under judicial investigation.

The complaint states that veterinary staff would have provided and administered dog vaccines in at least 100 people, under the excuse of being a drug “to combat the effects of the coronavirus”.

The background indicates that it all happened in the town of Calama, in northern Chile, last year. There, a veterinarian with the initials CPC wrote a report titled “Cross-vaccination. Canine coronavirus vaccine as a preventive treatment in humans at risk of contagion and of developing coronavirus disease COVID-19”.

The health investigation also fined the doctor 180 UTM, or about 13,331 USD, for serious breach of health regulations by illegally exercising the profession of surgeon and for making predictions indirectly. However, the professional would have appealed against this measure.

I was not the only one involved

The ongoing investigation further revealed that CPC I was not the only one who supported this fake treatment. Authorities have also identified a veterinarian, with the initials MFM, who was reportedly caught vaccinating people with the canine dose.

The survey details that the a woman admitted to the facts when she was verified by the authorities. She was also reportedly vaccinated with the canine drug to “generate antibodies” against the coronavirus.

“(The) owner said she vaccinated between 70 and 75 people and had 90 more doses left. That the patients did not show symptoms and he even suggested it to me, ”a witness told health authorities. Faced with these accusations, the professional took the time to deliver the version of her facts. According to his words, “It’s not about hurting someone, maybe we have had – or have – the cure and we don’t know”, said the veterinarian.

It should be remembered that in Chile, the only institution authorized to decide on vaccinations in the country is the Institute of Public Health. (FAI). And for now, the background and Drugs Pfizer, Sinovac, AstraZeneca and CanSino approved for emergency use against coronavirus.
