A babysitter was arrested last Monday in El Paso, Texas, for the murder of the baby he was caring for. Apparently the young used wrestling braces to calm the baby, who suffered brain damage, pulmonary hemorrhage, abdominal bruising and a fractured skull.

Investigators discovered that DeHart and two other children had been left in Lake’s care while the children’s mothers went to work.
During a video call between Lake and the mother of the other children, identified as a “witness Schneider”, the woman saw DeHart and said he appeared to be “healthy and alert, but was crying and agitated.” About four and a half hours later, Lake called “witness Schneider” and He said DeHart had “collapsed” and vomited a red substance.
Just before midnight on April 12, DeHart’s mother and “witness Schneider” arrived at the apartment and discovered that DeHart was not responding and breathing properly. The baby was admitted to hospital in critical condition and was quickly put on life support, with doctors describing his injuries as acute and not accidental.
The child is said to have suffered brain damage, a skull fracture, pulmonary hemorrhage, abdominal injuries and bruising. He did not resist: died of his injuries on Friday April 16.

During questioning, Lake said he had no idea how the baby was injured. The babysitter first told investigators DeHart was sitting on a futon and watching TV. According to police, Lake changed her story throughout the interview. About the end admitted that the injuries were caused by “various wrestling-style movements”. However, he ensured that the most serious injury occurred when the minor slipped from his arms and hit the frame of a futon.
When police investigators confronted Lake about DeHart’s other injuries, Lake explained that he held the baby tight after teasing him for breaking a pillow. Lake told investigators that he got angry and didn’t realize his own strength.
Lake maintains that he did not cause any injuries to DeHart’s head, but that he was responsible for the internal injuries.
On Monday April 19, the coroner declared DeHart dead as trauma and intentional homicide. That same day, Lake was arrested and taken to the El Paso County Detention Center for murder.
